Open Question: Functions Question: Please Help, thanks!?

Here is the problem to solve: The function s9x), sometimes called the signum function is defined as: s(x)=1 if x > 0 for example s(17) = 1 s(x)=0 if x = 0 for example s(0) = 0 s(x)=-1 if x<0 for example s(-27) = -1 The domain for the function is every real numbers. Q#1 - What is the range? Make a table of values and graph. Q#2 - What does the graph look like? Q#3 - Do you think s(a + b) = s(a) + s(b)? Test some values for a and b. If your answer is yes, justify. If your answer is no, give a counter example.

Open Question: Polynomial Function Roller Coaster Project?

I need some major help. I have a terrible teacher, and have no idea how to do this project she gave us. THE TASKS 1. Create a roller coaster using the graphs of functions. • Use polynomial functions to create your roller coasters • Your functions must be continuous at every points. • Your polynomial functions must connect—they must have points in common. (Of course, this excludes the start and finish of your coaster.) • You must have a minimum of five functions. The maximum number of functions you may have is ten. • You must have at least five different degrees of polynomial functions. You may have no more than two repeating degrees of polynomial functions. • Each polynomial function graphed must contain at least one relative maxima and one relative minima. • Label the graph of each function in your roller coaster. • You may use different colored pencils in graphing your roller coaster. • Tip: do not pick “crazy” points of connection between your equations. Rather, have them connect at “nice” points of intersection. For instance, x = 3 is a nice point of intersection, while x = .873 is not. • Tip: have your roller coaster start at the origin. • Tip: initially create your polynomials in factored form—this will easily give you the roots. 2. The Functions • Create a “key” of the polynomial functions and their equations so that they can be referenced when analyzing your coaster. • The domains and range for each polynomial must be provided • The relative maxima and minima must be provided—approximate these values to the nearest 100th. • You must describe the end behavior of each polynomial. (In doing so, consider that the domain is not restricted.) • You must state the name of the polynomial if it has one. • Use correct function notation. • Make sure every equations are functions.

Open Question: Any NAS solutions that work with Windows File Sharing?

I need a NAS that will work with Windows File Sharing. Does anyone know of one that will work 100% with Windows XP's File Sharing? I need it to be able to join a Workgroup to share files just like a windows xp machine and be able to join a domain. If you know of another NAS solution that will allow me to map it as a network steer and be able to run programs off of it (with full read and write access) that would be very helpful to as this is what I need to do. It needs to support 10/100 and 10/100/1000 (or gigabit) network speeds. If there is an enclosure that would allow me to install my possess harddrive in it with these features that would also be great.

Open Question: Finding the particular solution to a differential equation?

Okie doke. So the information I have is -dy/dx = (1+y)/x The question asks me to "Find the particular solution y = f(x) to the differential equation with the initial condition f(-1) = 1 and state its domain" So what I do is cross multiply the derivative : dy*x = dx(1+y) and then rearrange into dx/x = dy/(1+y) Then I integrate both sides F = integrate symbol F dx * 1/x = F dy * 1/(1+y) Which gives me ln(x) + K = ln(1+y) The problem here is that ln(-1) does not exist :/ Where did I go wrong in my math? Is there somewhere farther I can go with this equation? Also it's not -dy/dx, it's dy/dx = etc. the - is just supposed to be a bullet point :/ *****SUPAH DUPAH IMPOTANT**** Okay, actually I think I look where I went wrong. The integral of 1/x = ln abs(x) right? Which if I continued to solve would give me ln abs(x) + ln(2) = ln abs(y+1) right? (Where k = ln(2)) Would this be my solution? And since it's absolute value would not the domain be every real numbers?

Open Question: Apache Virtual Host configuration?

I've a domain www.mydomain.com and also created a CNAME subdomain sub.mydomain.com for my only external ip address *.*.*.* In my current environment, I've have an Apache web server (10.1.10.1) port 80 and 443 opened, a web application server 1 (10.1.10.2) and web application server 2 (10.1.10.3). So, what I am trying to do is that I want to configure using virtual host on my apache web server (10.1.10.1) so that when I connect to www.mydomain.com from IE, It will redirect me to web application server 1 (10.1.10.2) home page and when I do sub.mydomain.com from IE, It will redirect me to web application server 2 (10.1.10.2) The other thing that I'm troubling with is the DocumentRoot paremeter in the virutal host config file. Since I'm trying to redirect to my internal ip addresses meaning that my web applications are reside on 10.1.10.2 and 10.1.10.3 respectively. They are not on the apache web server. Therefore what is the parameter for DocumentRoot? Thanks in advance

Open Question: How can you easily monitor web access on an office network?

I work at a tiny-medium office, with around 60 workstations (not part of a domain, just a workgroup), and one PC/server acts as a gateway. Currently, internet access is simply shared directly. We obviously don't want connection problems when we need it because people or downloading videos from youtube, mp3s, etc., so, we're looking into how to monitor usage. So, can anybody suggest a simple method to control, or at least monitor bandwidth usage? Also, is there a way for each workstation user to realize it is being monitored? Lastly, references to websites or articles on this matter will be greatly appreciated... Thanks before; and sorry for any lack of detail or if this is a stupid question. We (unfortunately) don't have dedicated IT staff, and I was somehow considered an "IT expert".... Sigh...

Open Question: Feminist ideal of role of women in home versus in society?

I am very curious about this topic. Modern feminism calls for complete equality between men and women in the public sphere. However, what are your opinions on the role of women at home? I grew up in a traditional family. My dad worked as an engineer and the home was my mom's domain. She cooked and was a homemaker. She also worked part time in early childhood development. This system worked well for my family, and I am not really sure how else the work can be divided. Does modern feminism oppose traditional gender roles within the household? Most households cannot afford a maid or a cook, and someone has to cook and clean. In my opinion women are simply better suited for this nice of work. But, that's just me. Please share how you feel about this topic. Also, please keep your responses civil. I'm sure that many of you think that I am a misogynistic pig, but attacking my character receive really old really quick. Thanks.
