Open Question: help! an affiliate of mine has registered a similar domain name to mine to promote my program.?

my domain is at abcdef.com and the affiliate has registered it at abc-def.com. I have asked him to remove the domain and transfer it to us but he has refused. He has also threatened to promote my competitors if i continue to push the issue. He previously violated my copyright by putting up my information word for word on the abc-def domain which he has since removed. is there anything i can do to cease him using the domain name?

Open Question: for keyword targeting in SEO, does having keyword 1 + a dash followed by keyword 2 in the domain help in SEO?

as in, instead of domain abcdef.com where abc and def are keywords to help rankings in the search engines, i want to use abc-def as a domain name. is this just as acceptable and makes no difference for SEO purposes? i am not referring to content etc as that obviously has an effect. i just want to know if the keywords in a domain with a dash in between can still bring SEO benefits. thanks in advance!

Open Question: Help - I can't remember how I uploaded my website from my webspace to the domain name I bought!?

I had free webspace with my old ISP provider and created a website. When I go to the FTP is fails to connect - is this because I am no longer with that ISP? The website still shows up on the name that I bought. But when I go there it just says 'External Hosting' I can't remember how I linked my webspace to the Domain Name. Any ideas? Thanks

Open Question: Can you create a website with the same idea as someone else? ?

I don't know much about creating websites so thought i'd ask. I want to create a website and when i researched the idea noticed someone else had the same idea. Their domain is .com and i would be using .com.au with a different but similar domain name. They haven't actually produced a website as such, just a page stating there idea for the site. Are there any legal ramifications for me doing this? Obviously i wont use the same graphics, etc, it's just that we have the same idea. I can use the domain i want i just wasn't sure if your allowed to have the same idea. I don't want them saying i stole it or something ridiculous like that. I am clearly very unfamiliar with this sort of thing.

Open Question: how can i protect my domain names from people stealing variations legally?

i have registered abcdef.com and variations of it. I have also applied for a trademark on the mark "abcdef.com" though i know domains can't be trademarked as such, through phrases can. what can i do to protect my online presence? thanks in advance yes abcdef.com is an example. I'm sure there is some legal remedy. registering a similar domain name is covered below the law of "passing off" and can also be used below the attempt to deceive.

Open Question: Is is illegal to get a.com address for someone else's name & then post unflattering things about them online?

My sister told me she just purchased a domain name with her former fiance's name (as in JohnDoe.com). She's pissed about their recent breakup and his philandering ways. She plans to create an actual website about that fool! I told her she's nuts, and could receive into big trouble. She says there's nothing illegal about it, even if it damages him somehow, as long as she doesn't put anything on there that's untrue. She says she got that tibdit by way of some TV judge's show. She doesn't plan to pretend to be him, but post pics of him and warn women to steer clear of him.

Open Question: What is a realistic budget when buying a domain name that has already been bought?

I understand it varies depending on the current usage and desirability of the name but was hoping for other opinions. The domain name I am thinking of has both .co.uk and .com taken and so I am considering getting in contact with the owners and making an offer. Currently .co.uk is redirecting to a myspace page that no longer exists and .com is used for poorly described african information so clearly neither is getting super hits! .com expires in early december but I suspect the owner will renew as it is updated regularly. I wouldn't want to reveal the name I am keen on at this stage but it is equally desirable as jockin.com/frontin.com etc. Please help!

I got rid of Apache web server since its a lot of trouble, trying to connect php and mysql. So I switched to web server that contains Apache, mysql and php, I easily got simple machines forum installed. I send a pal a link http://127.0.0.1/forum but he said the link not working. I have always used "links: webaddress.com" on google to find the backlinks of a site but then I tried to check the backlinks of this site which sounds similar to another popular site. When I type in it keeps showing the results of the other page. The only difference is a letter in the domain name. So now it shows the backlinks of both the sites. Is there a tool or a site where you can check for backlinks of a site.? I tried to google it but then I got some sites that don't display proper results.. a lil help please

Open Question: Where can you make a site for free?

Hi, I was wondering where you can make a good site for free. It doesn't have to have "your possess domain" rather, something that will show up in Google.. (Like words from a site.) I have tried blogger before, but it seems when I was writing articles with that.. I would ACTUALLY type in exactly what was in my articles and there was nothing in Google that would show my site! I was so confused.. Was I doing something wrong? For example let's say this was in my blog, "Yellow and orange zebras that are crazy mad." I would type exactly that in Google and nothing showed up? So I got confused and gave up because I was trying to figure out why it wasn't showing up for awhile so I stopped. But It's like when you type in Google about someone or something that's on Myspace.. It will show up.. ( Let's say If I type in information about someone it will show a page.) So what exactly am I missing when I start a blog.. Anything typically I need to do in the editing section, or what not? Because I wrote several articles and none of them have ever showed up in Google.. even if I type the blogs name, or exact url...

I am a web developer. I have developed several websites.For testing I used the actual domain on webserver. Recently I have develop my open website.I wanted to test it on webserver. But i dont have domain name and web space. I dont want to invest money for testing purpose and would like to use free website hosting for trial. If my website is working fine then I will purchase the domain name and website space. I used ASP.Net,C#.net and MS Access for development. I have tested the website on local IIS.But I wanted to fully test its functionality on webserver as there may be several reasons to accident the website. Open Question: Is it ok to register and use a domain name with the word Yahoo in it or would Yahoo bite my head off?

Open Question: Is this company to be trusted? Website: www.dt-bak.com. They do look quite legit to me.?

I am asking this because they also sell single phones. The weird thing for me about it is they contacted me on msn. I first received a e-mail with the price and shipping costs. Then one of the recipients of my earlier e-mail added me on msn. He told me the company could be trusted. But when I asked for any references on European contacts he told me there were none. The delivery was done by UPS and I would receive a tracking number if the package was to be sent. A Whois search of the domain name came up with an exact address and some names. If anyone can do a double check on that, or can find more information, please do. I know there are a lot of people who have been ripped off by Chinese companies but after a long search this one looks quite promising to me.
